New Line Kicks Off Its Vertigo Slate With Tom Hardy For 100 BULLETS

Much may have been up in the air as to whether or not actor Tom Hardy would be up for a comic book role after departing Suicide Squad long before filming. Alas, if there really indeed was, it appears that question has finally been answered.

For this, we leer on over to a new report from THR announcing the Child 44 and The Dark Knight Rises co-star's newly attached role in New Line Cinema's first foot forward with Vertigo Comics properties, 100 Bullets. The award-winning comic property, created by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, ran 100 issues between 1999 and 2009 and tells the story of Agent Graves, the perpetual driving force of a story of a man who, for reasons unknown, presents select recipients with a gun, a photo of the person who ruined their lives, and 100 rounds of untraceable ammunition.

The Vatican Tapes scribe Chris Borelli is well underway in developing the script for Hardy and producer Dean Baker to produce through their Hardy Son & Baker banner. DC Entertainment is also overseeing the project as well with New Line as Veritgo's previous handler, Warner Bros., has its hands full with the current development of its newly awakening Batman movie franchise and the cinematic universe revolving around it with the upcoming Justice League movies, and then some. Also on deck from New Line is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's long-developing take on Neil Gaiman's fantasy epic, The Sandman, further lending an edgier tone to New Line's slate of comic book movies.

Hardy's hugely-received action blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road is now up for grabs on digital platforms while his next dual role in London crime drama, Legend opens this October in the U.S., followed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's latest, The Revenant, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio this Christmas.

Leonardo DiCaprio Fights For Survival In The New Trailer For THE REVENANT

Following the uproar received last year over his costume dramedy, Birdman, Babel helmer, Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu's latest cinematic offering now comes through the reunion of Inception co-leads, actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy for the Holiday release of The Revenant. Author Michael Punke's 2002 book of the same name provides just the source material here for the compelling look now seen here with our actors starring as explorers in the late 1800's - one of them forged in the wake of near-tragedy, betrayal and harrowng survival.

SYNOPSIS:
Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

It's a piece of work that since deemed its author as "the most successful" according to Maxim last November, and judging by Iñárritu's reception, I don't have much reason to believe it shouldn't deserve the Oscar appeal it is currently generating. The film does, however, open on December 25 going up against films like J.J. Abrams's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ericson Core's Point Break remake and the 70mm premiere of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.

Boy oh boy... Unless you're up for a quadruple-header, choose your destiny!

SDCC 2015: Ubisoft Gets A New Writer For SPLINTER CELL

San Diego Comic-Con may be over, but the news still remains residual for quite a number of upcoming projects, namely Ubisoft Motion Pictures's upcoming theatrical adaptation of the hit game, Splinter Cell. Actor Tom Hardy, star of Mad Max: Fury Road and the upcoming crime biopic, Legend, is tapped to star as of late 2012 and now, word from Deadline states script writing duties remain on-going with the addition of Frank John Hughes now writing the next draft.

Hughes, who wrote the script for actor Denzel Washington's upcoming post-apocalyptic future thriller, Shovel Ready, is third in line to work the script for the new film following previous drafts by award-winning writers Eric Warren Singer (The International, American Hustle) and Sheldon Turner (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, X-Men: First Class). Ubisoft's Splinter Cell franchise stems from a series of books began by military sci-fi author Tom Clancy about Sam Fisher, a highly-trained special ops soldier who works in a fictional black-ops sub-division called “Echelon”, a team best known for its use of cutting edge weaponry and unique combat skills to take on terrorists and neutralize powerful enemies in action-packed stories ripped from real-world headlines.

Hardy's recent appearance in Mad Max: Fury Road earned close to $360 million dollars globally since its theatrical run began two months ago. His next dual role in Brian Helgeland's Legend opens in the U.S. on October 2, 2015.

LEGEND Gets A New Trailer With Tom Hardy And Tom Hardy Starring!

If there were ever a dual performance to look forward to, it's with what Mad Max: Fury Road star, actor Tom Hardy appears to have accomplished in acclaimed screenwriter Brian Helgeland's latest, Legend. Based on author John Pearson's 1972 novel, the story here set in London's swinging era bodes just nicely with Hardy immersing himself as Reggie and Ron Kray - two notorious twin brothers with very distinct personalities rising in the criminal ranks. You can imagine what all else factors into that sort of decision making as things mount with more sizzling drama, grit and danger, and it's nice to see such an actor seemingly pulling it off so well.

SYNOPSIS:
From Academy Award® winner Brian Helgeland comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an amazing double performance. LEGEND is a classic crime thriller taking us into the secret history of the 1960s and the extraordinary events that secured the infamy of the Kray Twins.

The film's release in the U.K. and Ireland has since been booted up two to its new date on September 9. Check out the trailer!

Gyllenhaal May Replace Hardy For Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD

Looks like perfect timing for Nightcrawler star, actor Jake Gyllenhaal whose most recent debut still of his upcoming boxing drama, Southpaw, from Antoine Fuqua (pictured) is currently making the rounds. Director David Ayer's forthcoming production of the DC Comics live-action adaptation of Suicide Squad is only several months away from commensing principal photography up over in Canada, and Gyllenhaal's going to need to apply those movie muscles once again now that actor Tom Hardy is no longer starring.

The Wrap reports that Hardy's scheduling conflicts between working on The Revenant with helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu prior to joining the promotional tour for Warner Bros. Mad Max: Fury Road between mid-March through May 15 when the latter film releases, possibly leaving room for Gyllenhaal to take his place. Hardy was listed in the official press release late last year for the role of Rick Flag, leader of the titular ragtag team of anti-heroes along with Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, while official word awaits on the potential casting of actress Viola Davis as the oft-antagonistic government overseer of the team, Amanda Waller.

Gyllenhaal previously starred in Ayer's 2012 crime drama, End Of Watch, so seeing those two reunite could bring something refreshing to the table for fans. For now, let's wait and see what happens.

The film is slated for release on August 5, 2016.
