As much as there appears to be a market for televised extensions of theatrical releases, Paramount Pictures is surely jumping aboard as of late last year with the announcement of Shooter. The pilot was ordered for TNT originally but had since moved to USA network which already has a slate of pilots well underway.
Director Antoine Fuqua's original 2007 film, starring Mark Wahlberg, was inspired by author Stephen Hunter's 1993 Bantam Dell publication which centered the story of Bob Lee Swagger, a former soldier resigned to his skillset and instincts after being coaxed and ultimately framed for an attempt to kill the president. John Hlavin wrote the script for the upcoming pilot and word has it now from Deadline that Ryan Phillippe, actor and co-star of shows like Secrets and Lies and Damages is being tapped to star while Wahlberg serves as executive producer.
There are no other names attached yet but Philippe's announcement is a promising step forward as we learn more. Stick around!
