NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Is Redeveloping Once More At New Line

I'm not really a horror person, but I have grown up with the usual share of Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers gems of yesteryear. It's a genre with an epic cult following like most genres out there and so it's understandable how some might feel about any particular character being rebooted in some fashion.

With that in mind, the latest updates from the past few days either may or may not be a nightmare depending on who is reading this, with reports now confirming from the trades that New Line Cinema is developing another reboot of the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise with Orphan scribe David Leslie Johnson penning a script. Horror legend Wes Craven created the character and wore several hats while sharing the directors chair with other filmmakers as actor Robert Englund played the iconic role of Krueger between 1984 and 1994. With this, Craven landed a staple for horror fans in launching a universe of stories centered around a former child killer who gets burned alive by the victims' parents, only to seek vengeance against them by haunting their teenage kin in their dreams. The franchise, on top of the usual video games, comic books amd TV show that followed, also landed a spin-off directed by Ronny Yu in the form of Freddy vs. Jason in 2003 prior to a reboot attempt in 2010 by director Sam Bayer with Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley starring.

Superhero properties, books and video games are a staple for Hollywood studios to remake and reboot for film, so while horror franchises are seldom heard of in this regard, it's pretty fair to conclude that much like the teenagers in Krueger's dimension, no movie is safe from Hollywood's reboot claws! So, let's keep this on our radar and then count the clock down until Jason Voorhees gets ANOTHER reboot of his own. You know it's going to happen.
