There's already some appeal from fans of Snowtown helmer Justin Kurzel in lieu of the the forthcoming release of his latest Shakespearean venture, MacBeth. For this, we have the upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular Ubisoft video game franchise, Assassin's Creed with Kurzel reuniting once more with his two MacBeth leads, actor Michael Fassbender and actress Marion Cotillard with a script that will evidently take a slightly different turn by way of its newest character addition, "Callum Lynch".
Yahoo! Movies provided a detailed first look photo of Fassbender, armed at the ready and in full-assassin garb with a description of the plot that goes a little something like this:
Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day. With the sensitive nature of the video game fanbase and the desire of getting their respective film counterparts done right, playing with little twists and turns will always be gamble, although time will tell if Kurzel gets this one right. As far as the picture goes... so far, so good, I'd say.
Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed round out the current principal cast. Filming is set to commense on Monday with locations set in Malta, London, and Spain for a December 21, 2016 release, cutting it slightly close to the release of Gareth Edwards's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which opens about a week earlier.
MacBeth is due in the U.K. this October with a U.S. theatrical date still pending prior to its Amazon debut next Spring from TWC while Fassbender's forthcoming reprisal as Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse is opening on May 27, 2016.
