San Diego Comic-Con may be over, but the news still remains residual for quite a number of upcoming projects, namely Ubisoft Motion Pictures's upcoming theatrical adaptation of the hit game, Splinter Cell. Actor Tom Hardy, star of Mad Max: Fury Road and the upcoming crime biopic, Legend, is tapped to star as of late 2012 and now, word from Deadline states script writing duties remain on-going with the addition of Frank John Hughes now writing the next draft.
Hughes, who wrote the script for actor Denzel Washington's upcoming post-apocalyptic future thriller, Shovel Ready, is third in line to work the script for the new film following previous drafts by award-winning writers Eric Warren Singer (The International, American Hustle) and Sheldon Turner (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, X-Men: First Class). Ubisoft's Splinter Cell franchise stems from a series of books began by military sci-fi author Tom Clancy about Sam Fisher, a highly-trained special ops soldier who works in a fictional black-ops sub-division called “Echelon”, a team best known for its use of cutting edge weaponry and unique combat skills to take on terrorists and neutralize powerful enemies in action-packed stories ripped from real-world headlines.
Hardy's recent appearance in Mad Max: Fury Road earned close to $360 million dollars globally since its theatrical run began two months ago. His next dual role in Brian Helgeland's Legend opens in the U.S. on October 2, 2015.
