Vlad Rimburg's New JCVD Fan Reel, I CAN DO IT, Voices The Gratitude Of A Generation!

When independent filmmaker and action designer Vlad Rimburg isn't training students and putting together lush action sequences like all of these, he's busy cutting some really cool and upbeat demo reels with a formula that truly gets the pulse going. Keep that in mind as you leer down below to his latest gem attributed to the Muscles From Brussels himself - action legend and co-star of the upcoming Asian superhero comedy, Pancake Man, actor Jean Claude Van Damme.

Alas, taking its thematic cues from the actor's lead role in the 1988 Frank Dux tournament biopic, Bloodsport is Rimburg's newest gift to the internet, I Can Do It, with scenes from a handful of memorable hits including Cyborg, Kickboxer, Timecop, Double Impact and Hard Target. This may well be the best thing you've seen this week or month, and especially if you're a fan of the actor, and it's completely understandable as integral as his career has been in cultivating a generation of action fans - probably many of whom in an era long before the internet spent their youth at home trying to apply the proceeding formula like I have: Big legs and Karate = Splits, no problem.

Ah, those were the days. *sigh*

Watch the video below and by all means, embrace the nostalgia as it kicks in. Remember: You can do it!

THE HIT LIST - June 1, 2015

Another big week has rolled by for some more amazing feats of independent action for domestic and international, with at least a few gems lending a spotlight to longstanding thespians respective to their own bases. These Hit Lists are always so loaded with content so I hope you are all able to keep up, too.

That said, let's get the show going here with some notable fight, stunt and tricking reels in the following embedded playlist, and a few of these are quite the favorites among some fans out there. Jessie Graff's most recent reel came out in April and so I've finally caught up with it myself, in addition to many more performers, including Katie Kramer, Esther Ballesteros, Michael Lehr, Goran Stjepanovic, Matt Mullins, Peter JangAaron ToneyJordan Okubo, the EMC Monkeys and the amazingly talented Celine Tran in a beautiful sword performance video from Godefroy Ryckewaert (if you'd like to see her kill zombies instead, you can do that too).

It's trailer time, and there are only a couple of these projects now active in some form or another, firstly with the current episode one webseries release of J.F.K. from actor and filmmaker Kyle Wong over at Black Ice 140. There's no relation here to the 35th President Of The U.S. and much more of a cross between The Hangover and The Twilight Zone with a story centered on three friends forced to piece together the events that occured the night they all got a little too drunk; The project is a reworking of its previous iteration, shot entirely new for a more cohesive story. There's comedy, a little drama, and only one fight scene in its current six-part setup, which is fine for what Wong envisions, and there are three character trailers on the channel to serve as a nice intro - Kyle's character trailer is at the very top.

The second trailer comes directly from blogger and filmmaker Michael S. Moore whose brand new webseries, Cornered, is airing its first episode on Tuesday, with Donald Brooks starring as a cop forced to fight his way through a gauntlet of deadly fighters to retrieve a briefcase and save the life of a woman from captivity. This doesn't look bad at all for Moore's debut at all and I look forward to what the remainder of this series has to offer, and you can learn more about it at his official Facebook page.

Two other short film trailers are also making the rounds - the first one comes by way of Bryan Sloyer, a filmmaker, stuntman and a consumate work-in-progress with a more mindful approach in his artistic delivery for sometime now, and his upcoming fight short, Music Man, is an example of that. The trailer beneath it is compilation trailer for two shortfilms by French actor and stuntman Daren Nop for Shadow Of 13, both which focus on a young homeless man whose remarkable fighting skills and acts of heroism draw the ire of the local thugs; Both shorts are now offline, but bode highly in their respective parts with stellar performances and design by Nop and his team, Cascade, in association with Taken and Transporter Refueled fight coordinator Alain Figlarz and his team. Moreover, the project just hit Cannes two weeks ago, so I wouldn't be too surprised if a feature film is in the works because of it. Just delighted, really.

The week also brings some cool new pictures from upcoming indie short projects. The first wave comes from Canadian fall guy Alex Chung well underway with Hit Me Apocalypse, now out with two new stills illustrating this, the third in a series of shorts paying hilarious tribute to Fight Club and host to an array of action sequences full of comedic genius...which reminds me... those ARE sticks. And ow. - The second album includes stills from a forthcoming project by George Johnston and his talented crew at Glasgow-based Hybrid Fight Academy. It's been a few years since I heard from this lot, so I look forward to whatevet their stills entail as well.

Time to knuckle up and get the fights out and about! The first four comes with the good graces of actor and martial artist Mathis Landwher taking the lead in a conceptual action sequence for a project titled Trespasser; It looks pretty ambitious and I would love to see more of it if there are plans in the works.

The second, third and fourth short videos below bring us the latest test fight gig from performers Taylor Tai and Ieisha Auyeung, Winner Takes All - the latest from David Conk over at Wolf Stunts, and some Pad Training with a twist courtesy of Movie Do's own Eskindir Tesfay and featuring pad-kicking trainee Robert Masser!

Now merging into some longer material, this final leg of the Hit List is one to truly savour. Actor and choreographer Namphon Arta Thainuruk's latest performance in Fired lends a good start here, with a story focused on an assassin whose concious arises during a job. I'll be honest, whatever happens at the end kinda left me feeling mindfucked a bit.

Bittersweet Beatdown is another new short that grants a bit of dramatic appeal with some action to boot, with performances by Andres Del Toro and director Joren Reyes. Del Toro plays Alessandro, a desperate street fighter in need of a little help that comes in a most awkward, and painfully brutal way. The action is a little sketchy with regard to editing and execution, but it's a watchable package and I recommend checking it out anyway.

Oh...and speaking of Lehr and provided you caught his reel in the embed at the very top, his team at Fight Factory have assembled anothet gem of their own, and it's apparently more suitable in brackets. [kill] is the title here, so make of it what you will. It's stylishly violent, gory and brutal, and for those reasons alone, it's awesome.

Next up is a continuation of a miniseries of action-packed fight experiments from filmmaker Eric Nguyen over at Lunar Stunts Action Cinema. The Fighting Journey has been going for a few years now and each with great results, and his next anf eighth installment, Uncharted, is another to feast the eyes on.

Now, now, in case you're getting weary of learning when you'll hear from Vlad Rimburg again, fear not. I teased his latest project with Tony Chu a few Hit Lists ago and it has since arrived in full, and it packs an array of walloping kicks to the face! Sacrifice is the title here featuring Brendon Huor leading with key performances by Mickey Faccinello, Amy Johnston, V10 Women Stunt Professionals's own Nadia Padilla, and a ghoulish appearance by fellow action actress Gemma Nguyen!

Shenmue - 'Suka High finally arrived from Leroy Nguyen and his team over at Rising Tiger Films, based on the Sega Dreamcast video game of the same name. I admit, I have no idea what the game itself really is since I never owned a Dreamcast, but whatever Nguyen and co-star Daniel Sim have set out to accomplish here, it appears they've done exactly that. You can also catch a making-of video on their channel as well.

While many of independent filmmaker Jeff Centauri's previous shorts feature gorgeous Filipina locals at the center of the action, this time he's bringing the fellas back to the stage once more. That said, Centauri's Kung Ako si ASIONG (If I Were ASIONG) lends the spotlight to the main character in a 2011 feature-length gangster biopic with an entertaining spin, showcasing Jerico Estregan and Eric Ejercito in a bro-infused duality between Asiongs. Oh, and there's a special appearance at the end by Eric's father who played the title role four years ago on the big screen, which I thought was pretty damn cool. Take a look!

Continuing all Star Wars fandom is the latest fight video from a group that I'm new to. Trilogy Wars brings John Perez and Alfonso Rodriguez in a tale of two friends talking girls, life, and movies, and as the story would have it, the last one results in an epic lightsaber battle around the house, with a twist at the end you might find amusing but...so much anti-Jar Jar hate though! Wow.

And finally, it's a good year to be actor and director David Sandberg, star of the new online shortfilm, Kung Fury, with 3 millions views in the first 24 hours and rising since Thursday, and now one of the most buzzed-about and warmly-received shorts now hitting festivals with a feature film on par for 2018. If you're new to this finely-crafted piece of retro awesomeness, by all means, let's fix that right now. All it needs are your eyeballs, and just thirty minutes to completely melt your brain through them. It'll feel good, I promise!

THE HIT LIST - April 6, 2015

My weekend was huge, and the week before it was pretty busy. Still, hell bent on maintaining new content as with every week, I've returned once more with the Hit List with all the usual bits of action gems you can enjoy.

Let's kick things off with a new fight reel from The Challenge Letter co-star, aussie actress Maria Tran followed by reels from Travis Wong, Duy Panouvic of Arcade Killers, Ryan Hunter, Maria Sova, Jerome Teague, Nnamdi Nwosa, Andrea Ross and the latest fight reel from Cinematic Fight Studio, with some more stuntin' from freerunners Vlad Height and Lennon Shannon!

Now let's get fighting, and for this, we can thank creator and actor Noah Fleder upon the launch of his new channel, Force Storm Entertainment and the debut of its first project, Vlad Rimburg's new Star Wars fan short, The Betrayal!

Kicking this next portion is the latest test choreography video led by stuntman and screenfighter Kai Fung Rieck. Beneath that is a 70's style action comedy from the folks over at Lunar Stunts, Tough Street - a story of love, betrayal, greed, cool action and shameless overacting, and a lot of fun to catch. Take a look at it below as well as two other test fight shorts: Kevin Barile's latest Bourne-style action gem with bladed weaponry and deadly hand-to-hand choreography in The Bourne Elimination with Bryan Sloyer, and Sloyer's latest cerebral action-packed regal throwdown, Queen led by Amy Sturdivant opposite Jay Kwon, Michael Lehr and others.

More on Lehr below as we cap off this Hit List with some shortfilm trailers: VerseS kicks things off with its own teaser as its well on the way, followed by a trailer for UK filmmaker Andrew Kueh's student short, Prime Contact, and the latest trailer for Henry Kim's long-awaited short, All Men Are Thieves which is currently debuting later this month in San Francisco at the Roxie theater on April 23 and 24 - Tickets are available at Sparxo.

This next one comes from German stunt fighter, actor Andy Long Nguyen and his latest experimental homage to 80's Hong Kong action cinema, currently still underway as of 2013 and made with all the tropes and attributes of a dated Hong Kong action flick. Notably, these aren't the only folks to take this approach to shortfilm content lately, which says a lot about how much appreciation there still is for the golden era of Hong Kong cinema. And clearly, there's a ton of it here.

new Hong Kong 80s tribute video "teaser"

This is a little teaser for another HK 80s tribute project that I’ve started in 2013 in Hong Kong. Unfortunately I couldn’t continue shooting since than and it still might take a while, because there’s no other way to finish it than returning to hong kong^^ but in the final version you will hopefully enjoy special appearances like Vi-Dan Tran, Mike Leeder and Maria Tran (who also did her own HK 80s style video recently) and many other surprising special guests ;) Check out my other HK80tribute video with Can Aydin Abida and Khoi Chau if you haven’t seen it yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqY4KbV7plw special thanks John Youk Markus Rec Armin Schnürle Alex Bross Konstantin Korovilas Rodney Wong Fatih Ugurlu Corn Kit Pui Man Ho Robert Reiskorn Craig Miller Natalie McKnight Yamil Ray Mania Pictures Mag-Fighters TeamBay rec Sefa Demirbas Zheng Tai Việt Nam Huỳnh

And last but not least, a testimony courtesy of actor and stuntman Adam Lytle with an important, dramatic message about how ideas are rooted, and the struggles of growing them. The title says it all.

J.J. Approved! Watch The New Trailer For Force Storm Entertainment's Debut Short, THE BETRAYAL!

If you were around about a year ago or so, you may recall previous reports on the announcement of actor, martial artist, writer, producer and stuntman Noah Fleder's inspired production base, Force Storm Entertainment. Built on the brewing reinvigoration of impending Star Wars fandom, with thanks in large part to the facilitators at Crestec Studios in Torrance, California, Fleder and the folks behind the scenes have been working toward developing a substantive platform for the shared vision at Force Storm Entertainment to accomodate fans with a variety of shortfilms and skits ranging from mockumentary-style comedy and laughs to impeccable drama, action and stuntwork.

Having previously worked with independent martial arts action cinema favorite, Unlucky Stars co-star and action director, filmmaker Vlad Rimburg on several online action shorts in the past including The Flow channel webseries, The Hunt, Force Storm Entertainment will debut its channel with the long-awaited action shortfilm release, The Betrayal on April 5, featuring Fleder and Rimburg with principle performances by Mickey Facchinello, Brendon Huor, Gui DaSilva, Jimmy Chhiu, Tony Chu, and Power Rangers: Dino Charge star Yoshua Sudarso. The Betrayal will mark the first of a slate of videos kicking off an eight week production cycle following the channel's launch on Sunday, March 29, 2015 with an announcement video by Fleder that now includes a fresh new teaser trailer for The Betrayal following the first teaser which aired on March 8.

The launch of the channel comes with great timing just as the surge among fans is rising with passioned awareness of director J.J. Abrams's forthcoming December release, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and other films that will follow suit. The next major star-studded Star Wars event is set to take place for the tenth Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim for four days on the weekend of April 16, and in lieu of this, Force Storm Entertainment has already caught the attention of quite a few important people within the leading ranks of the Star Wars community, and in no way do I imply this as an understatement. To say the least, 2015 is a damn good year to be a Star Wars fan, and the momentum and potential is surely resonant for Force Storm Entertainment with the approval they're getting and are continuing to acquire, particularly from a certain director of certain film coming this year.
"Really fun short film. Fighting is very well done. Now I really need to up my game!!!"

~JJ Abrams
As a noteworthy mention, Force Storm Entertainment is one of two channels Fleder is hosting this month with his upcoming martial arts tutorial channel, Martial Way, which will launch on the same day. That makes two reasons to pay close attention to what Fleder is doing this year while he maintains his place on the radar for fans and netizens alike who love martial arts, science fiction and all things comic-con.

If you fell asleep on this since my last report, now is as good a time as any to wake up and subscribe to Force Storm Entertainment. Watch Fleder's announcement video below and follow the Storm on Facebook and Twitter!

The 'Best Of The Best' Is Unveiled In The New Story Trailer For UNLUCKY STARS!

I don't always get quoted in trailers, but when I do, I consider it somewhat of a milestone achievement and it's always humbling. So as much as I ramble about movies, it's great to see the recognition, especially from debut director Dennis Ruel whose newly releasing film, Unlucky Stars, is taking off with plenty of high marks and praise from fans and critics alike. And surely enough with this film lending itself as an homage to the immortal legacy of the Hong Kong action comedy, a film like this undoubtely deserves a following, as well as all the support it can get from anyone who has ever loved kung fu cinema.

Alas, the film is currently set for an exclusive screening event on Thursday with a Q and A segment to be included with the cast and crew, so more information will definitely follow after this week as it readies a limited theatrical release. On that note, feel free to take a gander at the stylish new poster below along with a batch of new promotional character graphics from the film, and a brand new story trailer...and yes, that's Best Of The Best 1 and 2 co-star, legendary actor, martial artist and stunt coordinator Simon Rhee in case you were wondering.

As for all else that came before and after my quote, you may read my review here.
