Getting my day off to a bit of an abrupt start while blogging, director James Bushe's newest homage to epic sci-fi, Predator: Dark Ages didn't upload to its channel right away before could add it to this week's Hit List last night prior to clocking out. Anyway, it's finally online and comes just off the heels of its positive response by comic-con attendees in London just this weekend, and having screened and reviewed it for myself on Saturday, I'm long proud to know everyone will have been in for a real treat.

Catch The Latest Trailer And Featurette For FOX's New Series, MINORITY REPORT

I always figured that Steven Spielberg's 2002 sci-fi murder thriller, Minority Report was a standalone flick, so you may imagine my surprise when news of a television series came last year. That said, FOX announced its Fall line-up of shows to air through 2016 with the television show slotted for Mondays at 9:00pm EST (including a second season of Gotham based on the hit DC Comics Batman franchise) and the way that director Mark Mylod and his team are going about this looks very interesting. Given what the most recent trailer and featurette present, I'm sure viewers at home will find themselves quite entertained.

DESCRIPTION:

Based on the international blockbuster film by executive producer Steven Spielberg and the first of his films to be adapted for television, MINORITY report follows the unlikely partnership between a man haunted by the future and a cop haunted by her past, as they race to stop the worst crimes of the year 2065 before they happen. 

Set in Washington, D.C., it is 10 years after the demise of Precrime, a law enforcement agency tasked with identifying and eliminating criminals…before their crimes were committed. To carry out this brand of justice, the agency used three precogs – “precognitives” Dash, Arthur and Agatha – who were able to see the future. Now, in 2065, crime-solving is different, and justice leans more on sophisticated and trusted technology than on the instincts of the precogs. 

Precog DASH (Stark Sands, “Inside Llewyn Davis”) – driven by his terrifying, but fragmented visions – now has returned in secret to help a brash, but shrewd, police detective, LARA vega (Meagan Good, “Think Like A Man” franchise, “Californication”), attempt to stop the murders that he predicts. 

As they navigate this future America, they will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, ARTHUR, and elude others who will stop at nothing to exploit their precog abilities. Also complicating matters is Dash and Arthur’s ingenious, but reclusive, foster sister, AGATHA (Laura Regan, “Mad Men,” “Unbreakable”), who just wants Dash to return home. 

A drama of crime and conspiracy, this is a timeless story of connection: two lost souls, Dash and vega, who find friendship, purpose and redemption in each other.

Watch The New Teaser For Upcoming Sci-Fi Thriller, TEMPLE, And Then Pray It Becomes A Full Movie!

Following the unveiling of a batch of new stills several days ago, the folks over at 3 Arts Entertainment are kindly keeping their word with its base and have released the trailer for yet another ambitious new project in the making. And no, I don't use the word ambitious loosely, as it perfectly describes just the kind of filmmaker Nguyen-Anh Nguyen is in the wake of the growing fandom long after the release of his concept trailer, The Akira Project last year.

Temple is the name of the project now on par for a fantastic shortfilm release this June with action star up-and-comer Osric Chau starring and a trailer is now online as well. The short is also being primed as a pitch for financing a bigger feature film, so if all goes well on that end, those who were fond of The Akira Project may very well get to see Nguyen's cinematic vision on a more broader scale as it's much deserved. He's honestly proven himself to be quite the worthy filmmaker and with such an adherance to cyberpunk action and quality stunts and storytelling, a workable proof-of-concept like this would be terrible to ignore in my opinion.

Considering the electrifying responses that lit up the internet roughly one year and three-million views ago with the release of the independently-produced anime/manga-inspired fan trailer, The Akira Project, it's reasonable to wonder what else the crew behind it has been up to since then. Well, indeed, the team has moved on to other matters of creativity which will no less continue to appease the masses of fans they've earned with a fresh new project that is just as slick and full of action and promise.

I'm talking about the new shortfilm, Temple, and the return of filmmaker Ngyuen-Anh Nguyen, now represented by 3 Arts Entertainement and back at the helm with a feat in which he aims to harness everything he loves with film, martial arts, manga and science fiction wrapped into one. Also seen is the return of action actor Osric Chau who previously worked on The Akira Project, now ready to display an array of stunning martial arts to accompany the aesthetic set in the following setup:

It's become clear that Nguyen and his team are risng in prominence, and it's a sizeable help to their current cause as they look ahead to bring their concept to different studios to help finance a hopeful feature film. As for the short, fans can look forward to its release possibly in June following its upcoming teaser which is set to arrive this coming Monday.

Watch Amy Johnston's Teaser Announcement For RAZOR SHARP: RENEGADE

The last few years have taken off quite well for stuntwoman Amy Johnston who's managed to find her route in applying her craft toward becoming a formidable actress as well. A sample of her talents are presented in numerous online projects on top of her highly popular action demo from several years back shot at the formerly-titled White Lotus Kung Fu Academy in California, as her resumé expands further into stunts in leading roles as of late, notably the upcoming release of Chris Nahon's Lady Bloodsport and series premiere of R.L. Scott's Option Zero, and as of this week, the currently-developing sci-fi actioner, Razor Sharp: Renegade.

Writer and director Marcus Perry leads the way with his own script as a concept that has otherwise been long in the making with at least one iteration of the project listed circa 2006 in shortform with a different cast. With Razor Sharp: Renegade looking toward feature-film revitalization with Johnston on point, there's much potential to be had. Alas, it won't be a matter of if, but when, and as such, a poster was unveiled recently in lieu of a new teaser announcement Johnston is hosting on her channel. Full disclosure: I got to see the concept teaser for myself, and as talented as Johnston is, she continues to reign supreme which will be hugely beneficial for a project as visually slick-looking as this.

SYNOPSIS:

BFI, Warner Bros. To Re-Release BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT In U.K. Theaters. Watch The Trailer!

Wishing actor Harrison Ford a speedy recovery following the crash of his single-engine plane last week from which his injuries have been deemed non-life threatening, hopefully this won't diminish his recently-announced involvement on, among other things a long-awaited sequel to the 1982 sci-fi noir cult classic, Blade Runner. In lieu of this and with the approval of director Ridley Scott, Warner Bros., the British Film Institute and the Blade Runner Partnership have commissioned a trailer for the 2007 'Final Cut' version ahead of it's theatrical release in the U.K. set for April 3, which you can now watch below, courtesy of Ignition Creative London.

Based on late author Phillip K. Dick's original 1968 publication, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, Blade Runner is set in November in the year 2019, with Ford in the role of semi-retired LAPD detective Rick Deckhard, who, in the course of being pulled back to duty as a "blade runner" to hunt down and "retire" rogue humanoid "replicants" following a bloody mutiny that led to their illegality, finds himself protecting and falling in love with Rachael (Sean Young), a replicant who believes herself to be human. The film was a commercial deterrant in North America but gained success overseas and earned cult status among adoring sci-fi fans for becoming one of the most visually stunning and influential movies to date, in addition to, among other things, receiving preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library Of Congress.

Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, who wrote the first film are writing the sequel with Michael Green for Sicaro helmer Denis Villenueve to helm next summer with Scott executive producing.

Mankind To Battle Mutant Cockaroaches On Mars In Miike Takashi's Live-Action TERRA FORMARS Movie

Japanese film auteur Miike Takashi (Crows, Yatterman, Ichi The Killer) is still on par to release his latest self-described return to form with the upcoming action horror, Yakuza Apocalypse. Obviously based on the most recent teaser, such a film will delve into the usual gonzo array of gory imagery and wackiness to accomdate the creative vision planned here, but that's Miike for you, and to suggest there's a limit to his style would be the equivalent of expecting gravity to work in outer space, which reminds me...

Terra Formars (テラフォーマーズ) is a 2011 Japanese sci-fi manga written by Yū Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana. The story follows that in an attempt to colonize Mars, 21st century humanity first sought to terra form the planet by sending modified algae to change the planets atmosphere. Cockroaches were cleverly used as the method to transport the algae across the planet. Five hundred years later, the first humans descended upon Mars to see if the terra forming experiment was successful. What greeted them were giant, mutated cockroaches who possessed immense strength. The landing party was completely wiped out but not before sending a warning back to Earth. Decades later, (and with a mysterious illness sweeping Earth that may have connections to the terra forming experiment) another expedition is launched but this time, the passengers have had their DNA grafted with other bugs and animals which has bestowed them with increased strength and durability. Now, this new expedition must get to the bottom of the mysterious illness and the true catalyst behind this astounding evolution.

Such is the current description (via Blastr) of Miike's new project now in the form of the live-action manga installment, Terra Formars, based on Shueisha's 2011 publication by sci-fi manga authors Tachibana Kenichi &  Sasuga Yū. The franchise has already built itself a following both in-print and on the small screen through original video animes as as one of the more highly rated properties as of late. In the meantime... going from battling Yakuza vampires to hunting down giant humanoid cockaroaches on Mars huh Miike? ...hmmk cool.

The Latest Indiegogo For Austin St. John Starrer, SURVIVAL'S END, Asks One Question

It's been well over a decade since TV movie director and documentation, award-winning filmmaker Daniel E. Springen has sat in the director's chair, although much of his career has been spent as a producer for films like Contract Killer, Just Another Day, and last year's Frank vs. God. This year however, Springen is coming back to the fray in an all-new feature-length film now crowdfunding via Indiegogo for the brand new apocalyltic survivalist action thriller, Survival's End, the story set in a version of America ravaged by the virility of the Ebola virus where an ex-military specialist must use his tactical survial skills to help a band of survivors escape government-imposed death squads.

This, right here, sounds like a truly badass plot line worth selling as an action feature with all the potential to serve to sci-fi fans as well as action junkies. Of course though, every action movie needs a fantastic leading man to fill the shoes. Henceforth, that task now goes to actor Austin St. John, whose career stemming from the early nineties as a leading cast member in the American toku action family series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and the second of two subsequent feature films, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, has since led him on a path as journeyman helping others in the U.S. and around the world as an EMT paramedic and firefighter. St. John briefly discusses this in the latest campaign video to help fund the film, and there's no question that such experience will serve him will for a role of this caliber, on top of being a martial artists as well as a veteran screenfighter who is no stranger to the camera, provided the right choreographer comes on board. It also helps that St. John is also in touch with the Tokusatsu community as much as his fellow former Ranger cast and if you follow the Comic-Con scene enough, you're likely to spot him, in which case, your next chance to meet him will be in Oz in the latter half of June, and there's more information available at his official website.

At any rate, Survival's End is looking to help fill at least thirty percent of its budget through Indiegogo with the rest of the financing coming through from a film program at Florida's own Valencia College in Orlando. TURBO KID Powers Up In The Newest Teaser!

Just heading into the last leg of its current run at Sundance is the much-hyped BMX-charged fantasy thrill-ride from Canada-New Zealand film collective, R.K.S.S., Turbo Kid. A few clips have already made their way online but we now have an official teaser as of a few days ago, and it's every bit of nostalgic fun you could probably imagine.

SYNOPSIS:

It's 1997. In a ruined post-apocalyptic world, the orphaned Kid survives on his own through drought-ridden nuclear winter, traversing the Wasteland on his BMX, scavenging for scraps to trade for a scant supply of water. When his perpetually chipper, pink-haired new best friend Apple is kidnapped by a minion of evil overlord Zeus, the Kid summons the courage of his comic book hero and prepares to deliver turbocharged justice to Zeus, his buzzsaw-handed sidekick Skeletron, and their vicious masked army. 

Bolstered by a pitch-perfect synth score, and clever and cheeky period details, co-directors François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell create a raucous retro-futuristic action comedy that pays homage to '80s movies great and small, while adding their own flair with inventive and exuberant violence and gore (prepare for disemboweling by exercycle). Sci-fi legend Michael Ironside delivers with malevolence and glee as the larger-than-life Zeus, a despicable villain with joie de vivre.

PSYCHO PASS Releases In Japan With US Date Pending

Following its serial run since 2012, director Shiotani Naoyoshi's latest feature-length installment of Production I.G.'s action packed sci-fi anime, Psycho Pass is making its theatrical run as of January 9 courtesy of Toho. Funimation currently has the rights while North American audiences await a release date, but those familiar with the franchise may enjoy what the film has to offer from Urobuchi Gem's screenplay with Fukami Makoto.

SYNOPSIS:

The year is 2112. Rookie inspector Akane Tsunemori and enforcer Shinya Kogami cross paths with one man. That man, Shogo Makishima, turns out to be the mastermind of a past case and Kogami’s target for revenge. 

When Makishima goes on to shake the foundations of a peacekeeping system, he poses the question about where justice exists. In time, Kogami takes justice into his own hands against Makishima before he goes into hiding… 

In the year 2116, the government of Japan begins exporting the Sibyl System and unmanned robot drones to conflict areas in an attempt to spread its system to all corners of the globe. SEAUn — the Southeast Asia Union — decides to test the Sibyl System, and with it the floating city of Shambhalafloat achieves fleeting peace and security. 

However, shortly thereafter, terrorists from SEAUn enter Japanese soil… 

With the involvement of one man, the terrorists attempt to sneak through the Sibyl System and launch an attack against the system’s brain. Akane Tsunemori of the Criminal Investigation Division sets off to investigate Shambhalafloat. 

The truth of the justice brought down on a new land is revealed…

CHAPPIE: Watch The UK Trailer And Latest US TV Spot

Admittedly, a film like director Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi epic, Chappie is something many of us have seen before, though in its visionary application, it appeals as one of the latest ambitious original ideas to set foot in the world of film. Moreover, the very addition of actor Sharlto Copley in the title role serves as a credit to the strengths shared between him and Blomkamp in their long friendship and partnership in film, and it shows in the recognition they've continually received in District 9 and Elysium just over a year ago.

Blomkamp's vision for a sci-fi universe is one that works so well with a certain majesty in his scope that bodes well along the lines of other director favorites like Guillermo Del Toro or even Ridley Scott - the latter once servicing a potential chance to contribute to the Alien franchise. No, we probably won't get to see that day come which is unfortunate. Nonetheless, Blomkamp still has his own successes to grow on, for this, we can certainly expect to have a great time with Chappie in a few months.

CHAPPIE Takes On Big Robots And Bigger Dreams In A New Trailer!

If not for the fact that District 9 and Elysium helmer, South Africa's own Neill Blomkamp was the go-to-guy at one point earlier on for an Alien film, there's a reason why filmgoers love him. Simply put, while the former title does outweigh the latter in some areas, he's good at what he does, and clearly it shows. Alas when you look at his latest offering in the new sci-fi thriller, Chappie, of course you might be thinking Short Circuit by way of iRobot and Robocop, and you may be right, as well in for another possible cinematic treat!

SYNOPSIS:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

Sharlto Copley reunites with Blomkamp in a career that has seen our actor in many larger-than-life dimensions, even as his inherited role from Scott Bakula in the A-Team remake was shortlived. Time and again, the two prove consistently to be a formula that work, and Chappie certainly aims to do the same, featuring a stellar cast that includes Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, Alien franchise star Sigourney Weaver and X-Men favorite Hugh Jackman, in addition to an assortment of deadly robots and awesome mech gear. Yes, this looks awesome.

Long Awaited Superhero Flick, GARUDA SUPERHERO, Bows Domestically This Weekend!

Indonesia's film industry doesn't always garner the support of big budgets for its more ambitious titles, but the vision is applied nonetheless when possible. It can be a noteworthy achievement depending on how you look at it, and you can certainly add writer and director x.Jo's latest offering with Garuda Superhero to that same list.

The film took roughly ten years to evolve from concept to production with a few conceptual reels having went viral earlier on. Granted, if you've seen those reels and CGI tends to be a touchy subject for you, then this particular venture may not be for you. Otherwise, comic book fans and followers of the superhero genre, and those who are generally sympathetic to the overall ambitious growth of Indonesia's film industry can probably take a liking to it.

At any rate, the film bows for its audience this weekend with actor and model Rizal Al Idris taking on the title role. The film also has a full trailer as of last month, and if heavy-duty visuals, tactical gun battles, intergalactic villany, superhero gadgetry, sexy femme fatales and all sorts of sci-fi lore appeal to you, then Garuda Superhero might have what you're looking for.
