I honestly didn't expect director Kyle Newman's latest fish-out-of-water action comedy, Barely Lethal, to be so obscure in the past year or more. Thankfully though, the film isn't too far off from its forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray and Digital releases next month, with actress Hailee Steinfeld starring as a young, highly trained spy on a whimsical quest of self-discovery on what it's like to be a "normal" teenage girl.

Released theatrically by A24, director Kyle Newman's (Fanboys) film shakes up the teen spy genre with an all-star cast that kicks butt while making the audience laugh out loud. Now this looks like a teen romcom I can get used to. Actress Halee Steinfeld as a highly trained assassin looking for an out and finds her way into high school in search of a life she's been missing, only to see her past come back in a deadly way? Yes, despite the usual assortment of wit and adolescent camp you might normally find in any pubescent teen comedy, at least this one packs some heat.

SYNOPSIS:

A 16-year-old international assassin yearning for a "normal" adolescence fakes her own death and enrolls as a senior in a suburban high school. She quickly learns that being popular can be more painful than getting water-boarded.

Jessica Alba and Samuel L. Jackson add their share of starpower to this long-awaited gem from director Kyle Newman with A24 releasing the film to subscribers of DirecTV on April 30 before granting a limited theatrical release on May 29.
