PANCAKE MAN To Take On Van Damme In U.S. Theaters On July 24!

Superheroism has a new face in China in the form of director Da Peng's latest, Jian Bing Man. The international title translates to Pancake Man with a story centered on a food vendor fight crime using superpowers rooted from the dishes he serves, and time will tell how that will match up against lead villain, played by none other than Jean-Claude Van Damme.

At any rate, audiences overseas will be catching the film on July 17 while word has it from Variety that the film will be getting some limited theatrical screentime in North America starting July 24 from Asia Releasing by way of rights holder Magnum Films.

SYNOPSIS:
Beijing, the present day. Popular TV personality Da Peng (Da Peng) is invited by gangster businessman Wang Hai (Liang Chao) to make a film in which he will invest. Wang insists that Da Peng's co-star is TV drama actress Du Xiaoxiao (Yuan Shanshan). However, after a nightclub scandal involving Da Peng goes viral, he's blackballed by a powerful internet executive (Charles Zhang) and finds himself unable to attract any male co-star. Wang also wants his investment back. Da Peng decides to make his own movie on the cheap, using a script he has about an alien, A Li, who arrives on Earth and has various adventures as a superhero. A paparazzo, Hu Lai, joins the production group, as well as an aspiring actor, Ma Tao (Yi Yunhe), and Da Peng persuades Xiaoxiao to play Xiao Yi, the owner of a jianbing (pan crepe) stall who becomes brainwashed by the

alien (played by Da Peng himself) and is transformed into his sidekick, super heroine Red Rose. In order to film some star names on the cheap, Da Peng and his team hijack Hong Kong actress Sandra Ng when she's jogging outside her hotel and try to stage a rape-and-rescue scene around her. When that fails, they try the same thing with another Hong King film-maker, Eric Tsang. After trying to get more free help from veteran Beijing Film Studio actor Wei Yunxiang, fight choreographer Yue Yunpeng and actress Liu Yan, Da Peng finally runs out of money and starts working as a host at funerals. His career looks at a dead end.

Superhero Comedy JIAN BING MAN Gets A Trailer With Van Damme Fully Stretched And Ready!

Well it was only a matter of time before action star Jean-Claude Van Damme would reappear in another comedy. His acting has grown pleasantly stronger in recent years so it's still great to watch him get silly from time to time. And his latest, Jian Bing Man (a.k.a. Pancake Man), serves quite the delicious example.

The film is set to arrive in July with Van Damme starring opposite actor and director Peng Da who plays a lowly street food vendor who somehow acquires his powers through the creps he sells. Somehow it leads to a final battle between him and Van Damme possibly in the role of the villain - although not plot details are available to discuss that end.

Suddenly I'm reminded of Meteor Man and Blankman. Hm. Only this could be cooler. Because Van Damme.

The film has some useful footage making the rounds this summer before its July 17 release along with the usual assortment of posters and banners.
