It's been long speculated with the success of Marvel's Daredevil that Netflix was positioning itself for a new series based on Marvel Comics outlaw crime fighter, The Punisher. Names like Frank Grillo and Scott Adkins have all but crossed the lips and fingertips of many a fan online fawning for a new live-action interpretation of the character which currently has several feature films under its belt, including actor Thomas Jane's 2004 offering preceding his brief return in the Adi Shankar-produced 2012 Bootleg Universe short, Dirty Laundry.
This week, new trade reports are putting a stop on all speculation with word that The Walking Dead series and Snitch movie co-star, actor Jon Berenthal now reporting for duty as the supporting role of the iconic vigilante in the second season of Marvel's Daredevil. The character, infamously known for his unforgiving methodical means of dispensing justice, first appeared in 1974 and was created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru and John Romita, Sr., centered on a story of Frank Castle, a war veteran whose symbolic alterego as the title character takes over in his dark rebirth following the murder of his family at the hands of the mob.
There are no details yet on how his role will come into play, although Daredevil is one of four shoes Netflix has in its roster with two others being Luke Cage and Iron Fist, two key members of "Heroes For Hire" which is also one of The Punisher's known affiliations. Doug Petrie and newly-attached Akira writer Marco Ramirez are showrunning the second season with actor Charlie Cox returning to star.
