Director Toa Fraser's Maori action epic, The Dead Lands, scored big with filmmakers and critics between now and late last year while the filmmaker has since moved on to other matters of creativity. One such matter has been the current development and pre-production of his new hostage drama, 6 Days, which was announced back in October.
With the new year now well underway, of course, filming is expected to commence this summer, and Deadline is offering a new report on the first names to headline the cast, which will include Jamie Bell, Abbie Cornish and Mark Strong. 6 Days reunites Fraser will The Dead Lands scribe Glenn Standring with all three actors set to star in the 1980-set story of the six gunmen who took over two dozen people hostage at the Iranian Embassy in Princes Gate, London, at the behest of Arab sovereignty, and the six days of intense drama and tragedy that unfolded before Britain's Special Air Service infiltrated the embassy, ending the crisis once and for all.
Fraser's The Dead Lands is certainly a film that carries some great intensity right down through the third act, which is telling of his work ethic and consistency of vision. As such, 6 Days sounds like something fans will surely enjoy with the cast and crew caliber at hand.
Matthew Metcalfe is producing the film with executive producers at XYZ Films who are selling the rights at Cannes while the UK maintains its distributional hold via Icon. Gavin Poolman of Apollo Media and Andrea Scarso of the Ingenious Senior Film Fund are also executive producing with Icon's Ian Dawson and Norman Humphrey. Lip Sync Productions’ Norman Merry is co-producing.
Bell is currently set to appear in Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot this August. Stay tuned for more info.
