Is George Miller Directing MAN OF STEEL 2?

Warner Bros

Warner Bros. has quite the full plate on its hands with their currently fluxating DC cinematic universe. With the course already set for Marvel and Disney, the key focus for Warner Bros. has been to develop its slate as things build up to the Justice League movies set for 2017 and 2019, though that hasn't been to solidly suggest there wouldn't be any more titles in between.

This fact became pretty clear between news surrounding hype for The Batman at San Diego Comic-Con and discussion of a fresh new Batman trilogy upon a recent private screening of Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. In parallel, what has also been waiting in the wings are the prospects of more Man Of Steel films following the first installment in 2013 which laid the thematic groundwork for the cinematic universe we are seeing happen right now.

That said, it looks pretty much like Man Of Steel 2 is going to happen despite any speculation. However, aside from the likelihood of actor Henry Cavill's return, the film doesn't have a publicly official flag planted on the studio's DC movie calendar and nothing's been officially stated about the plot or the story aside from its relevance to DC's movie slate. On that note, there's at least one small morsel being tossed about online following a recent episode of the online talk show, PopCorn Talk, where The Death Of Superman Lives: What Happened? documemtarian, special guest Jon Schnepp stated at the bottom of the hour that George Miller would be filling in the director's chair for Man Of Steel 2.

Comicbook.com says Miller was once supposed to direct a Justice League film several years ago, and it just so happens that Miller himself got just the jolt he needed back in May with the explosive release of the early summer blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, which is already in line for a trilogy of its own.

Normally I follow trade sites, but there are some people who talk say certain things with substance, and Schnepp doesn't come across as someone talking out of his own ass, so rumor charges notwithstanding, this seems pretty solid. Miller is clearly the right guy for the job and his credentials make him worthy of a film of this caliber, with the gravitas and a distinct vision for high-speed drama, and explosive action and ressonance to help channel the comic book fanfare now brewing in the Man Of Steel canon.

Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice opens on March 25, 2016. Stay tuned for more info.
