Well Go USA's WOLF WARRIOR Is Now Available For Pre-Order

We're literally just one-month away from the North American release of action star Wu Jing's solo directorial debut, Wolf Warrior. It shouldn't be long before we finally get a trailer going viral but chances are you folks already know what the film looks like due to the trailers now online. Definitely patriotic at its core with a variety of actors on hand, one can argue this looks like an exceptional template for Wu in his career off-camera, and considering it's just one of two films that significantly did a number on his legs in the last few years prior to his recovery, hopefully there will be plenty more to come.

In the meantime, this one has some high-quality artwork to bear until its release, courtesy of Amazon.com where you can pre-order your respective DVD and Blu-Ray copies right now.
The action-packed war drama WOLF WARRIOR, Wu Jing’s second film as a director (following Legendary Assassin), debuts on Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital HD Sept. 1 from Well Go USA Entertainment. In addition to his directing duties, Wu Jing (Badges of Fury, Shaolin) also stars as a Chinese Special Forces soldier with extraordinary marksmanship who is expelled from the army and joins a mysterious troupe of insurgents known as the Wolf Warriors.  Yu Nan (The Expendables 2, The Taking of Tiger Mountain) plays the formidable female captain of the insurgents, while British martial arts sensation Scott Adkins (Zero Dark Thirty, The Bourne Ultimatum) plays a foreign mercenary out to capture Wu.  WOLF WARRIOR also stars Kyle Shapiro (Wolves), Ni Dahong (Curse of the Golden Flower) and Kevin Lee (Pound of Flesh)
Synopsis: Sergeant Leng Feng (Wu Jing), top marksman of the Chinese Special Forces, is jailed under court martial for disobeying orders. But he's just the kind of fighter the Wolf Warriors are looking for.  Silent. Stealthy. Deadly. The Wolves bring Feng into their pack, honing his skills to a knife's edge. But another team has Feng on their radar: a group of corrupt blades-for-hire, seeking revenge for the drug lord's murder.

Feel The Glow 30 Years Later In The Blu-Ray Trailer For Berry Gordy's THE LAST DRAGON!

In this day and age, if there is ever a chance for director Michael Schultz's immortal kung fu soul classic, Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon to be remade for millenials, I don't think it would live to tell the tale unless the right director and crew were on it. The film is such a treasure to the niche it is meant for and now we have a forthcoming repackaged and brand-spanking new version of the film arriving on Blu-Ray in late August.

SYNOPSIS:
Celebrate thirty years of BERRY GORDY’S THE LAST DRAGON, now fully remastered in high definition on Blu-ray. Martial arts student Leroy Green (Taimak) is on a quest to obtain the elusive all-powerful force known as “The Glow.” Along the way he must battle the evil, self-proclaimed Shogun of Harlem – a kung fu warrior also known as Sho’nuff (Julius J. Carry III) – and rescue a beautiful singer (Prince protégée, Vanity) from an obsessed record promoter. Combining pulsating music, cutting edge dancing and the best in non-stop action, BERRY GORDY’S THE LAST DRAGON is kickin’ good fun featuring an amazing Motown soundtrack, including music by Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Vanity and DeBarge performing their smash hit “Rhythm of the Night.”

You can pre-order your copy at Amazon right now. In the meantime, Sony is hosting an official trailer for the film's glowing re-release on August 21, and you may watch that below right now, and layered with a classic Don LaFontaine voice over no less!

dTV Miniseries, Higuchi's ATTACK ON TITAN: COUNTER ROCKETS Takes Off In A New Trailer!

Big things are happening as we kick off August with the Japan release of the first of Highchi Shinji's two-part live-action adaptation of the hit manga/anime franchise, Attack On Titan. Thus, Japanese streaming video service, dTV will be linking to the films of a three-part tie-in miniseries of its own, now in the form of Attack On Titan: Counter Rockets.

Actress Ishihara Satomi co-stars in the films while leading the cast of the series as it focuses  on the soldiers, as well as her character's research of the monstrous Titans and the creation of the 3D maneuvering equipment they use to combat them. Higuchi himself also directed the series, otherwise assuring he's got his hands on everything from start to finish throughout his cinematic universe here whilst romising action and visuals that are equally dazzling for fans across the board.

Sakuraba Nanami, Watanabe Shu, Takeda Rina and Hiraoka Yuta also star. The three-part series premieres August 15 with every Saturday in between, and with another two-season animated spin-off in the works, there's no doubt fanfare here will continue as electric as it has been.

The first movie releases in Japan this weekend with the second arriving on September 19 with releases currently planned in Australia/NZ by Madman and in the U.S. by FUNimation. Watch the trailer below!

NARUTO Is Up For A Live-Action Film From Lionsgate

Naruto Shippuden and Road To Ninja: Naruto The Movie helmer Yamashita Hiroyuki is currently on the way with the next theatrical chapter of the hit manga/anime saga, Boruto: Naruto The Movie - the eleventh animated film in the saga, this August in Japan while fans await their day in October. It's a franchise like many of late with a huge following stemming from its roots at Shueisha by author Kishimoto Masashi, prior to its anime launch in 1997 with a plot focused on an orphaned boy determined to become his village's strongest ninja guardian yet. Moreover, it is one that has systemically driven online creators to bring their own inspired take on Kishimoto's universe, and make no mistake - there are quite a few successes to take note of (HINT: I've written about them).

So, what of it then? Well, as a lot of you may already know in this day and age, it's always a matter of time before something as highly treasured by the masses as a beloved anime is taken into consideration for a live-action adaptation by Hollywood. Films like Dragonball: Evolution and Edge Of Tomorrow, and upcoming iterations of titles like Akira and Ghost In The Shell are prime examples of hits and misses of such properties (you be the judge of either), as the volume and tone of the responses to these projects are largely met with some capacity of skepticism, to say the least. So in the wake of Variety's latest report this time around, this might not be surprising, as word now has it that former VFX specialist Michael Gracey is moving into a live-action take on Naruto with backing by Lionsgate in association with Avi Arad productions; Gracey's directing career will kick off next year for the biopic release, The Greatest Showman On Earth with Hugh Jackman starring, following a resume with titles such as Chen Kuo-fu's 2002 thriller, Double Vision, Ned Kelley in 2003, and The Magician in 2005.

Granted, this will take some getting used to when this goes forward, and hopefully it meets the standards the fans hope will be met. Lionsgate is also handling Dave Green's current production of the upcoming Toku feature reboot, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with Saban, so for those concerned, that is two fronts to pay attention to, but the Naruto universe is definitely one internalized for its fanbase.

Cross your fingers and watch this space.

Quench Your Thirst In The New Trailer For BLOOD SUCKING VAMPIRES!

Independent filmmaker and comedy purveyor Brian James O'Connell is well on his way up with approving responses by audiences keen on his previous works, namely including Killer View and Angry White Man. Both titles have the appeal toward viewers adoring of unmitigated, dark humor that pushes the envelope and it remains an integral business model in his craft now with his latest, Blood Sucking Bastards, daring to bleed the workforce competition dry!

SYNOPSIS:
An Office Space meets Shaun of the Dead action-packed horror comedy, BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS stars Fran Kranz as Evan Sanders, a low-level, dutiful employee stuck in a boring job at a soul-killing every corporation. Evan’s the kind of guy who does all the work and gets none of the credit, but at least he gets to spend his days with his beautiful co-worker/girlfriend Amanda and his slacker best friend Tim, so he soldiers on in the hope of one day getting his coveted sales director position.
Unfortunately, it all falls apart in one fell swoop when Amanda breaks up with him and Evan’s boss Ted hands his promotion to his college nemesis Max . And it isn’t just their sordid past Evan has to deal with. After his fellow officemates start going through disturbing changes (which, paradoxically, make them better employees) and bodies begin to pile up, Evan learns the horrible truth: Max is a vampire. And even worse… a vamp with a plan.
BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS takes audiences on a hilarious, blood-spattered roller coaster ride in the most terrifying locale of all: the American workplace. Evan must find a way to stop the evil brewing amidst the cubicles, expose Max as the bloodsucking bastard that he is, win back Amanda, and save his pals before his life and career go from dead-end… to just dead.
Cabin In The Woods co-stars Fran Kranz and Joey Kern, Pedro Pascal from HBO series Game of Thrones, The Collection actress Emma Fitzpatrick, Yvette Yates of Inherent Vice and El Gringo fame and Mad Men series co-star Joel Murray lead the cast with a script by Connell's fellow film cohorts, Dr. God and Ryan Mitts. Filmgoers can expect a limited theatrical and digital release on September 4, so check out the trailer below stay tuned for more information and check your local listings in the coming month.

FANTASTIC FEST 2015: Kurt Russell's BONE TOMAHAWK Leads The First Wave!

Living in Austin and in the mood for a variety of films that explore the weird, charming and existential tropes of what's offered to the festival scene? Fantastic Fest has that covered once again this year in the last week of September, and with the announcement of its first wave, fans can look forward to a range of titles, new and dated, with awesome guest appearances to boot.

Personally, the biggest title I'm looking forward to thereafter (since I don't live in Texas) is the one title that stands out to me the most, and Bone Tomahawk starring festival guest, actor and co-star of Quentin Tarantino's upcoming ensemble flick, The Hateful Eight, actor Kurt Russell as he takes on cannibals in S. Craig Zahler's new western thriller (This is something right up my dad's alley too since he loves westerns!). Check out this poster which made the rounds earlier this year.

As for all the other titles, each of them have their appeal for those attending from titles covering the romantic, the bizzare and even the erotic. The official website has all the details you need and more, and many of which you may read below right now.

Austin, TX - Thursday, July 30, 2015 - Fantastic Fest announces the first wave programming lineup for its 11th annual celebration of exciting genre-bending films, including the World premiere of BONE TOMAHAWK with Kurt Russell and Matthew Fox in attendance, a retrospective of Turkish Genre Cinema, and a special Mondo Gallery event and programming series curated by filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn to celebrate the release of his new book Nicolas Winding Refn: The Act of Seeing, which profiles Refn’s collection of vintage exploitation-era American movie posters. “We’re very excited about this year’s mix of premieres, unique events and a retrospective theme unlike any other featuring audacious and otherworldly Turkish remakes of classic Hollywood films,” said Fantastic Fest founder Tim League.

See the full list of first wave films below and stay tuned for news on more films and events in the weeks to come. Fantastic Fest takes place September 24 - October 1 in Austin, TX at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.

S. Craig Zahler's existential horror western BONE TOMAHAWK closes out what guarantees to be another furious week of chaos with the director and film's ensemble cast descending on Austin. "Bringing Kurt Russell back to the Alamo is something we've been trying to do for a long time" said League, "And to do it with BONE TOMAHAWK, a quintessential Fantastic Fest film, means we're in for one hell of a closer. Huge thanks to Caliber Media for making it all happen."

Turkish genre cinema is at the heart of this year’s Fantastic Fest, inspiring both feature programming and the festival theme. This relatively unknown school of ‘70s renegade filmmaking is explored in REMIX, REMAKE, RIP-OFF, which will be receiving its U.S. Premiere with director Cem Kaya in attendance. ‘‘We are delighted to be digging deep into Turkish cinema for a journey of discovery,” said Fantastic Fest Head Programmer, Evrim Ersoy. “With its ‘filmmaking-at-any-cost’ mentality, the sheer insanity of Turkish cinema is a perfect match for Fantastic Fest.”

As part of the Turkish celebration, Fantastic Fest will be screening three seminal films, DÜNYAYI KURTARAN ADAM (aka THE MAN WHO SAVES THE WORLD, aka TURKISH STAR WARS) , YILMAYAN ŞEYTAN (aka THE DEATHLESS DEVIL) and TARKAN VİKİNG KANI (aka TARKAN VS THE VIKINGS). The screenings will be complemented by the attendance of iconic Turkish filmmaker Çetin İnanç and moviestar Kunt Tulgar. “Due to the high cost of exhibiting American movies, Turkish filmmakers created their own versions of these classics, and with it a new universe of madcap cinema was born. I’m proud to say we’ve selected some of their wildest rides.” said Ersoy. In keeping with the Turkish spirit, this year’s poster is comprised exclusively of elements from classic Turkish movie art, of which there will be over 60 original movie posters on display at the festival.

Filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn shares his unique collection of rare American exploitation movie posters in the lush new hardcover book Nicolas Winding Refn: The Act of Seeing. Three of the films featured in the book - FAREWELL UNCLE TOM, THE X-RATED SUPERMARKET and MY BODY HUNGERS - were selected by Refn to screen during the opening weekend of Fantastic Fest, followed by a Q&A and book signing.

The Mondo Gallery, located at 4115 Guadalupe Street, will be hosting a special exhibit showcasing 15 of the original posters featured in Nicolas Winding Refn: The Act of Seeing, plus a brand new limited edition poster by artist Jay Shaw inspired by the book and created specifically for the gallery show. Refn will be on hand to sign copies of the book at the gallery during the opening reception, Friday September 25th. The exhibit will run September 25th - September 27th.

“Being a massive fan of Austin, Texas, I consider it a great privilege to join forces with Fantastic Fest and the Mondo gallery to host the exclusive U.S. debut of Nicolas Winding Refn: The Act of Seeing”, said filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. “I’m excited to show the world this odyssey of rare and exclusive poster art at the festival alongside screenings of some of the films that inspired it.”

Watch The Riveting New Teaser For Cary Fukunaga's BEASTS OF NO NATION!

I have to say, were it not for the existence of film and as consuming as day-to-day life can be, I think a lot of people in general, including myself, would never really ever lend an ear to issues of worldly importance as child soldiers in third-world countries. It's a great medium to use if you're not very studious as some people about a specific topic and it's something you would have to really care about and immerse yourself in as contemplative and tedious as filmmaking can be with a cast that can help put a stamp on said project.

Well, leave it to Cary Fukunaga whose newest contribution with the otherwise visceral and compelling war drama, Beasts Of No Nation, is gearing up for a simultaneous release shared between Netflix and select Landmark theater chains through distributors at Bleecker Street. Idris Elba is on hand for this one with young actor Abraham Attah leading the young story based on Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala's critically acclaimed debut in 2005.
Based on the highly acclaimed novel, director Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation brings to life the gripping tale of Agu (newcomer Abraham Attah), a child soldier torn from his family to fight in the civil war of an African country. Idris Elba dominates the screen in the role of Commandant, a warlord who takes in Agu and instructs him in the ways of war.
The film is currently slated to test for the festivals crowds in Venice and Toronto while making way for its release on October 16. Mark the date and check out the trailer below!

Aleksander Bach To Direct Alien Invasion Epic, REVOC For Summit!

We're less than a month before the release of director Aleksander Bach's latest live-action game adaptation offering, Hitman: Agent 47. There's no doubt, however, that early screenings, provided the reviews are upworthy, may prove the film to be an effective one, and so we can comfortably look forward to whatever lies in Bach's future as a filmmaker.

That said, THR has it that the award-winning commercial director will be following up with Revoc, an alien invasion thriller from a script by John Robert Cole. David Hoeberman and Todd Lieberman are producing the film for Lionsgate via Summit, and there's general plot to circulate as of this report while being described as a unique and grounded sci-fi epic.

My take on this is uncertain, so time will tell upon the release of Hitman: Agent 47 just exactly how I feel about Bach in his directorial debut. The trailers have been nothing short of fantastic, and so I'm already sold as it looks like a great first outing. If it works in full, I'm all for Revoc.

Well Go USA Unveils The DVD/BD Trailer For SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL

Well Go USA is in great straits with its release line. And just to think that years ago, the only way to catch a film like Zhao Tianyu and Peter Pau's latest, Snow Girl And The Dark Crystal, would be to either live in the region or wait for it on bootleg. Gladly the latter no longer has to be an option, and with the evolution of our technology between filmmaking and home viewing, you can best be sure to be left dazzled by this one.

It's another stake in visually heavy territory for China as it adapts and branches out to other studios for more tools to hone in the craft of further manifesting Chinese mythology and folklore into such a lusterful fest of cinema -  Definitely one to chalk up as a memorable big screen gem, but thankfully this one will be coming to DVD and Blu-Ray quite soon. And for this, the official home release trailer is finally here!
Academy Award® winning cinematographer Peter Pau (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, 2000) makes his third bow as a director (alongside co-director Zhao Tianyu) with the romantic fantasy adventure epic SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL, debuting on Digital HD, Blu-ray™ and DVD August 4 from Well Go USA Entertainment.  Featuring “a story filled with its fair share of demons, monsters, magic and mystics, coupled with romance, danger and spectacular action,” (Film Combat Syndicate) the film depicts legendary hero Zhong Kui, a fabled warrior with mysterious powers, who is forced to conquer the realms of Heaven and Hell to save his people and the woman he loves. The film stars Chen Kun (Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate) as the mythic demon hunter and Li Bingbing (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame) as the alluring snow demon with whom he falls in love. SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL includes a behind-the-scenes featurette that delves in to the visual effects employed in the film and the music that sets the mood.
Synopsis: Shot in scenic locations in Mainland China, SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL depicts the story of Chinese legendary anti-hero Zhong Kui, a young man endowed with mysterious powers who is forced into a battle among the realms of Heaven, Earth and Hell in the course of his attempt to save his countrymen and the woman he loves.

Adi Shankar's Dark Superhero Drama GODS AND SECRETS Adds Five To Its Cast!

Bootleg Universe made quite a bit of noise earlier this year with filmmaker Joseph Kahn's Power/Ranger one-shot shortfilm. The short continued to gain virility with its release amid its controversy with producer Adi Shankar handling all PR on the matter and for what it's worth, it was a worthwhile attention getter, so it bring to mind the question as to what lies ahead for Shankar in the process.

Well, leave it to a new report from Deadline that The Grey and Dredd 3D producer, along with Stewart Yost, will be making his directorial debut for another darly-lit venture, and this time into superhero territory with the new fantasy drama, Gods And Secrets. From creators Shankar, Jenni Powell and Shawn Deloache, Discourse Productions is producing the project with Twilight Saga co-star Jackson Rathbone who is starring. The report states the new drama will be likened to The Watchmen in exploring the extra shades of grey opposite typical superhero stereotypes, with a plot described as follows:
In a world in which superheroes exist, personal foibles and the resulting celebrity culture are front and center. In the story, tragedy has struck the superheroic team Guardians of Justice, and in its aftermath secrets are revealed, lives are changed, and the war to end all wars begins.
Also starring are WWE superstar Diamond Dallas Page, star of the upcoming Bruce Willis action thriller Extraction - actor Kellan Lutz, You're Next star Sharni Vinson and actor and YouTube personality, Andy Milonakis. Stay tuned for more details!

Michelle Yeoh Gets A New Wax Statue Unveiling At Madame Tussauds Hong Kong

Standing for hours non-end for the materialization of your own wax-figure is no easy task. However, any mild discomfort there may be is a small price to pay, especially for Malaysian actress and legendary Hong Kong superstar Michelle Yeoh, the latest inductee into the Kung Fu Zone exhibit over at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.

Her display this week is a certain treat these days as fans await until early next year to catch her along with fellow action star Donnie Yen in director Yuen Woo-Ping's theatrical/svod-bound forthcoming English-language wuxia sequel, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Legend. Fans are even moreso geared toward the hopes that this will be the first of a new foray into doing Hong Kong action once again, which would no less mark a highly-anticipated welcome back for the actress into the genre since working on more contemplative roles such as in the director's cut of the 2006 martial arts drama, Fearless, as well as the 2007 space thriller, Sunshine, and in Luc Besson's Aung San Suu Kyi biopic, The Lady in 2011.

Granted, she was still doing action roles as well with movies like Babylon A.D. in 2007 and the John Woo-produced Reign Of Assassins in 2010. Nonetheless, a celebratory return to the genre that helped launch her into niche stardom with movies like Magnificent Warriors, Wing Chun and Yes, Madam! would be nothing short of a delight.

All things in good time though, while we await what lies ahead following her upcoming marriage to motorsports mogul Jean Todt. If martial arts action cinema a la Hong Kong is in her future, let it be.

Better yet, I wouldn't mind her Hong Kong prospects including an ensemble reuinion of sorts. Let's hope Royal Warriors co-star Sanada Hiroyuki and Yes, Madam! co-star Cynthia Rothrock are in the loop.

Check out the photo below along with the press release from a few days ago for the unveiling of Yeoh's statue and stay tuned for more info!

International star Michelle Yeoh today unveiled her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. Styled as the character Yu Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon, Yeoh’s wax figure joins Kung Fu masters Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen at the newly opened Kung Fu Zone in paying tribute to Hong Kong martial arts films. In celebration of the 15th anniversary of its opening, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong launched the brand-new Kung Fu Zone as the finale of its third major expansion project. In addition to the four legendary martial arts masters, a gauntlet of interactive challenges also awaits visitors.
Styled as the fearless character Yu Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Yeoh’s figure clutches a Chinese sabre and appears to be ready for a fierce fight. Re-enacting a classic scene from the film, the life-like figure also exudes Yeoh’s celebrity charm. According to Yeoh, her wax likeness reminded her of numerous interesting moments from the filming of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and she hoped guests can immerse themselves in the world of martial arts films as they interact with the wax figures.
This is Yeoh’s second collaboration with Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. To prepare for production of the new wax figure, Yeoh spent five hours with a team of professional sculptors from the United Kingdom for the sitting process. Her measurements of all parts, as well as colour matching and contrasting of her hair and eyes, were taken with great precision. Hundreds of photos were taken to ensure the final figure can fully capture her graceful style and impeccable physique.
Yeoh said: “I’m honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with Madame Tussauds Hong Kong for the second time. I was, once again, amazed by the professionalism of Madam Tussauds studio artists. It never occurred to me before how similar wax-making artistry is to martial arts – both require patience, precision and an unyielding pursuit of perfection.”
Although it was not the first time that Yeoh has collaborated with Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, she was once again thrilled and amazed by the liveliness and likeness of her wax figure – the level of detail was so refined that even the figure’s sharp gaze was an exact replica of its living counterpart.
Yeoh said: “I’m extremely pleased to join three martial arts film legends in the newly opened ‘Kung Fu Zone’ and pay tribute to Hong Kong martial arts films. Chinese martial arts has a long and illustrious history, while Hong Kong has made significant contributions to the spread of Kung Fu fever around the world, particularly through martial arts films produced in recent decades. I’m deeply humbled to be a part of the Kung Fu culture and I hope guests can experience the spirit of Chinese martial arts through their interactions here.”
The Kung Fu Zone is Hong Kong’s first permanent tribute to martial arts and Kung Fu films. As the grand finale of the attraction’s third major multi-million dollar expansion, the new zone is close to 800 square feet. Modelled after a traditional Zen monastery, the all-new themed area features a beautifully crafted red arched door and a magnificent sculpted dragon.
Besides Yeoh, three other influential Kung Fu film stars who have made immense contributions to the development and popularisation of martial arts will be featured in sets inspired by key scenes from classic Kung Fu films, covering some of the most iconic moments in Hong Kong film history. Bruce Lee, widely considered as one of the greatest martial artists of all time and a pop culture icon of the 20th century, is now immortalised in wax and greets visitors with his signature flying kick. Jackie Chan, dressed in a traditional duangua suit, strikes an iconic pose from his vast body of work in martial arts comedies, which catapulted him to early fame in his career. Donnie Yen’s wax likeness appears as Ip Man, the Wing Chun master of legendary Bruce Lee.
Ms Kelly Mak, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, said: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Michelle again. A familiar face the world over, Michelle is an iconic martial arts star and her influence has been recognised with the title of Dato’ and other honorifics numerous times. Through Michelle and her fellow martial arts stars, we hope to exemplify the best of Chinese martial arts, which was first brought to the world stage by Hong Kong martial arts films before it became a significant facet of global culture. The Kung Fu Zone aims to carry forward the traditions and spirit of this precious intangible cultural heritage of the city, and interactive elements will complete the all-around Kung Fu experience for tourists from all over the world.”
A series of interactive experiences also awaits visitors as they make their way through the zone. An interactive screen teaches martial arts combat moves, and combatants can receive immediate feedback on their performance. Guests are also invited to prove their balance and agility on sensory-activated projections on the floor and test their speed by hitting as many targets on a Wing Chun wooden dummy as possible within the time limit. The magnificent sculpted dragon overlooking the area has in store an interactive surprise for courageous fighters. These dynamic special effects promise to immerse everyone in the martial arts world.

Cruise: "We're Working On MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 Right Now"

Hear this - we're barely days away from the forthcoming release of director Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation with promotion still underway and a handful of exclusive screenings taking place for lucky fans. The film was long hyped through its trailer campaign as the "last mission", which of course is no guarantee that this will be the final film, but it's still bares mentioning what with all the changes in the cast throughout the now five-part evolution of the franchise.

Cruise leads the cast with Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner as the crack superspy team resets its strategy in the wake of attacks by a rogue team of operatives equally skilled in measure. It's otherwise proved to be an exciting addition to the franchise with daring stunts and blistering action to accomapny the global scope of the saga with clever characters and worldly evil villains all in a millieu of intrigue, mystery and uncertainty with danger at literally every turn. And for this, to think that another film would be in the running would nearly sound impetuous at best...but not according to the franchise's main star.

The Wrap shared a highlight from a recent episode of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with John Stewart in which Cruise, who has also produced the franchise since the first film, announced the development of a sixth film with a possible start date for next summer. No other details were given in that regard as the actor sat and discussed the new film ahead of its official release set for July 31, while the film is currently poised to earn somewhere in the vicinity of $40 million dollars for its opening weekend - according to Variety, with an alluring set of reviews from various sites now online.

This could be a great weekend for moviegoers, especially for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and provided that the box office earnings meet the respective analysis' of approving critics throughout, a sixth film would no less be a sure thing. Stay tuned for more info.

Sci-Fi Thriller RE-KILL Leads The After Dark Films/Fox Relaunch. Watch The New Trailer!

Three years is a longtime to wait for a film to release after its completion. After Dark Films exemplified this with its three-year deal based at Lionsgate for the production and distribution of genre titles, specifically including Wrong Turn 6 helmer director Valeri Milev's action horror thriller, Re-Kill.

A dystopian zombie splatterfest is something that surely speaks to the niche it's meant for and that may have followed through in 2012. Obviously the film eventually fell into distribution hell with the likely ending of the deal, although thankfully progress has been made with the company's relaunch at Twentieth Century Fox for its '8 Films To Die For' slate, as per a new report from Dread Central that Re-Kill will finally get its just dues on the big screen on October 16, 2015.

SYNOPSIS:
It’s been 5 years since the outbreak that wiped out 85% of the world’s population, but the war between Re-Animates (Re-Ans) and Humans wages on, as most of the major cities are still uninhabitable. Within the few surviving cities, the Re-Ans have been segregated into “zones” and are policed by the R-Division of the QUASI S.W.A.T. Unit who hunt to re-kill the Re-Ans in the hope of quelling a second outbreak.
Bruce Payne, Daniella Alonso, Scott Adkins and Roger Cross star. The latest trailer arrived just a few weeks ago, so check it out right now below!

Michael Bay's 13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI Unveils Its First Trailer

Blockbuster director Michael Bay is tentatively off the radar from making alien robots fight each other in epic death duels. Still though, it's in films like his latest, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi, that he continues to illuminate the best image of military might, and here and now through the conception of Chuck Hogan's script based on the tumultous events that took place in Libya in 2012, and Mitchell Zuckoff's subsequent book in 2014.

There's no question to the divisiveness of the source material here: An American ambassador was killed and it led to an endless inquiry by our Congress with little to zero results, thus spinning into a mainstream media frenzy between party lines. Guaranteed however, as effective as these films are, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi looks very appealing in cinematic form with a cast led by John Krazinski, James Badge Dale, Toby Stephens and Max Martini, and a story that assure proper tribute to an important life lost at the core of this story.

SYNOPSIS:
On the evening of September 11, 2012, the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a group of Islamist militants attack on the American diplomatic compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya. They kill four Americans, including a US Ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens. A security team of six members fight to defend the remaining Americans.
The film opens in January next year. Catch the latest red-band trailer below.

Fox's GAMBIT Loses Its Star

It's no fun wasting minutes of hype writing about movies and casting faves only to see such developments fall apart before our eyes. Actor Channing Tatum has long been the frontrunner for Twentieth Century Fox's upcoming production of live-action Marvel property, Gambit, having spoken with high hopes of playing the character, followed by word that Rupert Wyatt would be directing.

As of Tuesday night however, it appears it has all been for naught with a report from The Wrap stating the actor's departure from the film. No reason has been publicly given for the fallout, although any number of reasons are imaginable considering it's a major studio production, so, your guess is as good as mine at this point.

Production is expected to begin in Louisiana this October for a hefty sum of $154 million dollars ahead of its October 7, 2016 release. There's no word yet on who will replace Tatum who had been high on playing the role, doing everything from working on the classic Cajun accent to learning new card tricks to get the character right. Essentially, he would have been a great pick, and now we are going to need an actor who is just as passionate about the X-Men favorite if this is really going to work.

Still though, I think Banlieue 13 star David Belle would make a great candidate, but that's just me. Comment below or on our Facebook page and let us know who you think should play Gambit!

Neil Marshall Will Hand Down THE SENTENCE For Applebox

Action thriller scripting duo Creighton Rothberger and Katrin Benedikt (Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen) are joining the latest production heading into pure revenge-driven sci-fi territory with the new film, The Sentence. Neil Marshall, off the stellar successes of shows like Game Of Thrones and Black Sails, as well as films like post-apocalyptic actioner, Doomsday in 2008 and 2010 period thriller Centurion, is on board to direct the film for Applebox Entertainment.

There are no plot details yet although Deadline has it on good word that film is being developed in the vein of Death Wish, which in and of itself speaks heavily to the action fanbase. In turn, one has to ask who is starring in this film for it it earn such hype? There's no question that Marshall is a suitable helmer for this project, although can't think of anyone off the top of my head for who would star. Rest assured, if there's a suitable actor as badass as the late Charles Bronson was during his time to match the inspired vision, I'm sure they will find him...or her (nothing wrong with a female lead).

EuropaCorp is fully financing the film, and that is all being said about this particular project. Stay tuned for more info!

Join Herman Yau For A Student Screening Of IP MAN: THE FINAL FIGHT This Fall!

We've already entered one more chapter of the Donnie Yen cinematic universe for the concluding biopictoral trilogy based on the life and legend of Wing Chun Grandmaster Ip Man. It's a name that has otherwise proven integral in the implementation of martial arts in cinema, and as a brand with popularity in other mediums, including television, and it's one that fans take great pride in.

Several filmmakers are to thank for this, including Herman Yau, who once directed actor Dennis To for the small screen spin-off opposite legendary veterans like Yuen Biao, Sammo Hung and Louis Fan. Yau also ventured into feature-length territory a few years back with Ip Man: The Final Fight, lead actor Anthony Wong vicariously claiming the title role opposite actor Eric Tsang. Well Go USA eventually released the film for North America in the Winter of 2013. Now, in keeping with the fan fervor as part of the University Of Southern California's School Of Cinematic Arts for their weekly Outside The Box [Office] showcase, Yau himself will be on hand to present the film in addition to sharing a Q and A with attendees.

SYNOPSIS:
In postwar Hong Kong, legendary Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man is reluctantly called into action once more.  What began as simple challenges from rival kung fu schools soon finds him drawn into the dark and dangerous underworld of the Triads.  Now, to defend life and honor, Ip Man has no choice but to fight - one last time.
The date is currently set for September 13 at 5:00 PM Pacific, so head over to the official USC School Of Cinematic Arts website for all the necessary location and event information you need.

Tommy Lee Jones Adds To The Cast Of The Next BOURNE Film With Damon Starring

The past several years have shown signs of life for a few more 'Bourne' films with mainstays, actors Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner in the wind for reprising roles in their own Bourne films. Particularly in 2015 however, the recent news of actresses, returning franchise co-star Julia Stiles and newly added Ex-Machina star Alicia Vikander have remained productive in building up more hype in anticipation of further news.

That effort continues now with word that actor Tommy Lee Jones will be joining the three principles for the upcoming film according to Variety. Jones will reportedly be starring in the role of a high-ranking CIA official geared toward the currently unknown plot with Damon back to star in this, his fourth outing as the lead character inspired by the work of late author Robert Ludlum. Paul Greengrass who last directed the 2007 release of The Bourne Ultimatum will be making his way back to the chair to helm as well as scribe with writer and executive producer Christopher Rouse. Damon and Greengrass will also produce with Frank Marshall and Jeffrey Weiner from Captivate Entertainment, in addition to Greg Goodman and Ben Smith.

Jones is poised to appear in Ariel Vromen's Criminal in January next year while Damon himself has a few titles coming up himself, including intergalactic space adventure, The Martian, and next November's release of Zhang Yimou's fantasy epic, The Great Wall.

Villeneuve's SICARIO Gets A Thrilling New Trailer!

I have to say, actress Emily Blunt's performance in last year's sci-fi epic, Edge Of Tomorrow really turned me onto her as a strong leading lady of action. That said, I'm more than excited to see what she's capable of with her latest role in Denis Villeneuve's new thriller, Sicario, with Star Wars VIII prospect Benecio Del Toro and actor Josh Brolin also starring.

SYNOPSIS:
In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman.
In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs.
Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.
The latest trailer has arrived ahead of the film's release this September. Check it out below!

Take A Look At The First Poster For Upcoming Action Thriller, MEZA: DAVID'S STORY

It's no easy feat to put together an amazing, full-length martial arts movie project. Nonetheless, it's a challenge conquered by Ontario-based film and stage performance troupe, Team 2x, led by debut director James Mark for the upcoming action sci-fi thriller, Meza: David's Story.

Team member and debut actor Chris Mark snags the title role as a troubled high school student whose latent "powers and abilities" emerge in the heat of battle, forcing him to face the secret organization he once escaped, and re-awaken the killer bred within him in order to survive. The ultimate vision for the film is said to be an exciting blend of all things people know and love about espionage thrillers a la Robert Ludlum with a touch of fantasy via the Wachowskis', otherwise presenting a fantastic formula for a story as driven as this one, and this is all going by written word until the trailer finally premieres next week.

Until then, the very first official poster has arrived ahead of the cast and crew screening this weekend, and it's full of all the teasy splendor that awaits. Check it out below, and stay tuned for more...and I mean MUCH more!

THE HIT LIST - July 27, 2015

This past week was pretty busy for me, so content has been slower than usual. But, that doesn't mean I haven't been keeping up with with what's happening in independent material and other matters of visual feats of sports and athleticism of which you will see plenty.

Time to get things rolling, and as always with a new playlist of stunt and training reels with performances by Aaron Gassor in full Sith mode, stunt players Moussa Sako, Luciano Arnieri, Deangelo Harding, Laura Beamer, Hayley Wright, Jesse Haus, Jennifer Li, Chistopher Leps, Mallory Thompson, Jwaundace Candace, Jared Losano, Sina Ali, the latest action director reel by Mark Mottram featuring scenes from the 2014 thriller, The November Man, and a new director reel by lensman and action director Godefroy Ryckewaert.

For the next leg, while I don't always feature freerunning in these, gems featuring any aspect of stunt performance are welcome with solid video production to boot. Damien Walters himself has since applied this in a new video of his own in a new video where he pretty much freeruns while engulfed in flames. It's not the first time I've seen this particular stunt, but it's also seldom done since the last time I'd seen a traceur on fire was about two years ago, which is pretty amazing.

Walters kicked off the new year in great fashion as well with the release of Matthew Vaughan's Kingsman: The Secret Service in which he performed stunts and helped train in the fight action as well, and he also put together an impressive short video ahead of the film's release. This is a guy that really knows his stuff, so I wouldn't fall asleep on him.

Other videos to accompany this segment include a new globetrotting reel featured on Team Farang's new channel in which parkour wunderkinds Luci Romberg, Anan Anwar and Jason Paul went leaps and bounds around Los Angeles, Bangkok and Japan.. thus the perks of being a traceur; you literally get to run around the world. Not. Even. Kidding - And speaking of, you will also find Romberg's latest video in the form of a submission sampler among a playlist of several now online for this year's Red Bull: Art Of Motion completion in the lush outskirts of Oia, Greece. I didn't include them all in this playlist because there are so many, but these are the ones that stood out to me while fishing through them.

While we are on the subject of athletic competition, martial arts trickerd from across the country are being invited out to East Windsor in Connecticut for Battle Of Fury 2015. Tricking gatherings are full of electricity with badass performances by young and inspired martial arts purveyors and experts from nearly all walks of life, which is worthy of noting as much as the phenomenon has taken shape in recent years, so help keep the spirit alive and if you're interested, headover to the link to get your tickets today and check out the promo for the event below!

Well into the new year, little is known about the future endeavors of Just Kidding Films duo Bart Kwan and Joe Jo outside of their usual feats of comedic spectacle. However, whatever their later aspirations may be, it clearly involves martial arts, and they've undergone quite a bit of training for some time now with martial artist, actor and action trainer, Force Storm Entertainment's own Noah Fleder. This week, Kwan and Jo are offering up another journal entry enviting subscribers of their network into a day of weapons training at South Coast Martial Arts.

Keep in mind, martial arts training is some serious stuff, especially with weapons...although clearly that doesn't take away from any of the hilarity you're about to see. They really do put the 'stick' in "slapstick". Watch please.

Alas, we've come to the last leg of this week's Hit List and the fight stuff is a bit light this time around, but still worth lending an audience to. First up is a trailer for the August 3 premiere for the new webseries, Warigami, a vengeful tale of martial arts and fantasy where paper is the deadliest weapon of choice.

The proceeding two videos thereafter include a new group test fight by Gay Alexandre with Thomas Lorber leading the badassery, and the newest fight short from the growing crew over at Wolf Stunts titled, The Bag.

The next video comes from director Andy Hourahine with the new shortfilm, Karate Girl: Brawl. Produced by Blair Johannes, the project sequelizes last year's Karate Girl: Streetfight with martial artist Julia Hourahine back once more and leading a story that takes our martial arts heroine's journey into further contemplation. The project here takes on a more spiritual shape here, and with your help, her path can go even further, so subscribe to the project's fanpage and lend your support, accordingly.

And lastly, and all the better for it, is a filmmaker who I've rambled about for nearly as long as I've run this blog. Stuntman and oft-filmmaker Emmanuel Manzanres has returned to charm the hell out of the online action fanbase once more with a spectacular new group offering in the new short, Monster. FMA purveyor and action actor Bryan Sloyer plays our captive forced to fight from the bloodthirsty clutches of four goons led by Jerry Quill in a scrumptious onslaught of hand-bound fistcuffs and full-fledged, no-holds-barred bat-cracking, headbashing, flesh-wounding facial reconstruction of only the brutal kind. This jewel of a video is literally so good it hurts, and bares all the markings of what it truly means to create quality content.

Someone get these people on a TV show please. Who must I bake cookies for in order for this to happen?

*sigh*.. Watch below, in awe.

A few more honorable mentions go out this week to independent filmmaer Vlad Rimburg's latest fan reel attributed to legendary action star Jean-Claude Van Damme, as well as actress and filmmaker Toy Lei for her Best Actress and Best Action Film victory among the winners this year's 11th installation of the 72-Hour Shootout competion hosted by the Asian American Film Lab in NYC for her new short, Boxer. The short is currently not available to the web yet, but the stills are still available in case you missed them...

...As for all else, feel free to view last week's Hit List roster in case you need catching up, and if you have QUALITY content that could use an audience, send it over to filmcombatsyndicate@gmail.com

Help Kickstart Michael Neal's New Action-Packed Webseries, SWORDS OF INSURGENCY!

It's always welcoming to see original content stake its claim in the eyes of the film viewing world. As tough as it is to sustain, however, opportunities for things like this most certainly advantageous, and so director Michael Neal is now ready to heed the call with crowdfunding at his disposal for the hopeful support of his newest webseries, Swords Of Insurgency.

There's no doubt that this one assures quality in its inspired vision between production values and cast performances. I had the opportunity to screen the pilot episode myself awhile back and observe lead actress Rebecca Hausman in the lead role and was very impressed with what I saw in an episode full of drama, intensity and phsyicality worthy of capturing on camera with great fight action put together by indie action design team, DC Stunt Coalition, led by oft-contributor to Film Combat Syndicate, fight choreographer James Couche.

The set design, costumes and overall indoor and outdoor settings were fantastic, and all done with a small investment and it goes to show the level of talent you have to have in achieving that sort of thing. Clearly the talent is there with Neal, Hausman, Couche and the rest of the cast, and with the help of Kickstarter through generous donations in exchange for some tasty perks - including an exclusive viewing of the first episode, Swords Of Insurgency will surely be a feat to enjoy in a webseries with all the trimmings.
Decades have passed since the great apocalypse destroyed civilization. The world has now become a reincarnation of the dark ages, warlords rule and fight for domination. Firearms are now scarce and held only by a few who use it to maintain power; hand to hand warfare has returned as the dominant form of control or liberation against tyranny.
Our story begins with Abigail a proud warrior with dark past, now imprisoned in a brutal political prison, run by the Emperor Taneg and his son Droll, a demented psychopath with a disturbing infatuation for Abi.
On the outside a rebellion grows against the monstrous Taneg and his prison, Abigail must find a way to escape and join the rebels and their mysterious leader. But to what extent will she go? And what awaits her on the outside, is she stepping out of the frying pan and into the fire?
A vicious world has been formed and Abi will find out first hand what it takes to survive and what it means to be human, in world full of beasts and monsters.

Dean Ambrose Counts His Luck In The New Trailer For 12 ROUNDS 3: LOCKDOWN!

You wouldn't suspect anything more than beyond what you might feel a director could do in following up with a film like, 12 Rounds 3: Lockdown, although judging by the latest trailer, director Stephen Renyolds appears to have taken care of that. It's pretty clever in its simplistic approach and with debut actor Dean Ambrose stepping up to the plate, another round here should suffice.

SYNOPSIS:
Ambrose plays Shaw, a detective that returns to active duty after the death of his partner. When he uncovers evidence linking his fellow officers to a murder, they frame him for a homicide he didn’t commit. Trapped in his own precinct, Shaw will do whatever it takes to expose the dirty cops and clear his name. With twelve rounds in the clip and one shot at redemption, nothing will stand in Shaw’s way in this action-packed thriller.
Take note of date for the film's theatrical and digital release now set for a September 11 release, and catch the new trailer!

THE TRANSPORTER REFUELED Gets The IMAX Treatment

Personally I'm not yet too sure about the upcoming release of The Transporter Refueled, much less the title. Ed Skrein comes off as a strong actor though, and I'm sure the story well find it's own way to be entertaining in a way, but my main concern will always be the action and I still have my grievances after Brick Mansions. So, here's to crossing our fingers, and if an IMAX presentation will help things a bit, then I boldly welcome a sequel.
LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IMAX Corporation IMAX and EuropaCorp announced today that The Transporter Refueled, the re-imagining of the successful trilogy in the studio's highly profitable action franchise, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released into IMAX® theatres domestically on Sept. 4, followed by a select international footprint in IMAX theatres.
Starring newcomer Ed Skrein, The Transporter Refueled, which will be distributed domestically by Relativity EuropaCorp Distribution (RED) — the joint marketing and distribution venture between Relativity Studios and EuropaCorp — is directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions), from a script by Bill Collage and Adam Cooper. The film is based on characters developed by Robert Mark Kamen and EuropaCorp founder Luc Besson, who produced the film with Mark Gao.
Frank Martin, played by newcomer Ed Skrein, a former special-ops mercenary, is now living a less perilous life – or so he thinks – transporting classified packages for questionable people. When Frank's father (Ray Stevenson) pays him a visit in the south of France, their father-son bonding weekend soon takes a turn for the worse when Frank is engaged by a cunning femme-fatale, Anna (Loan Chabonal), and her three seductive sidekicks to orchestrate the bank heist of the century. Frank must use his covert expertise and knowledge of fast cars, fast driving and fast women to outrun a sinister Russian kingpin, and worse than that, he is thrust into a dangerous game of chess with a team of gorgeous women looking for revenge.
From the producers of Lucy and the Taken trilogy, The Transporter Refueled is a fresh personification of the iconic role of Frank Martin that launches the high-octane franchise into the present day and introduces it to the next generation of thrill-seekers.
"With The Transporter Refueled, we are thrilled to partner again with Luc Besson and EuropaCorp to bring this action-packed re-invigoration of this global franchise to IMAX fans worldwide," said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. "IMAX works to provide audiences with thrilling entertainment year-round and this early September release is the perfect example of that."
IMAX previously partnered with EuropaCorp to release last summer's hit action film Lucy, through Universal Pictures, and will release the studio's big screen adaption of the epic sci-fi graphic novel Valerian, starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, which is slated for a global release summer 2017.
The IMAX® release of The Transporter Refueled will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

FANTASIA 2015: The Supernatural Looms In Feudal Japan In The Latest International Trailer For NINJA THE MONSTER

Acclaimed director Ochiai Ken is getting things off to a decorative start for this summer's events at Fantasia Fest in Montreal. Part of the line up will be the August 2 premiere of his newest, Ninja The Monster - the second of two films well on the way from Shochiku's forthcoming slate of low-budget cult-oriented genre titles from Japan, and judging by the most recent trailer, clearly Ochiai has nothing but good things in mind: ninjas, monsters, swordplay, fantasy. Consider me sold.

SYNOPSIS:
The time is midst of samurai era when Ninja were banned. Sachi, a beautiful princess is traveling to Edo (present Tokyo) with her men including Denzo who is an ex-ninja whose true background has been hidden. Suddenly, they encounter an unidentified monster in a forest. As they battle to kill the monster, all of Sachi's men are killed except Denzo. Sachi starts to question his true identity and why Denzo risks his life to protect her.
Sure, it's quite the switch from his latest 2014/2015 award-winning feat, Uzumasa Limelight, but that doesn't mean this won't be fun, and I'm sure it will be.

Fujioka Dean, Morikawa Aoi and Wada Sohkoh star. Hit up the festival website for premiere and ticket info and more after you view the trailer.
