Big things are happening for Blue Ribbon Content's current production of the third and new serial installation of Mortal Kombat. With filming already underway, some new casting information already hints at the very likelihood that the new season will deviate from the first two seasons which largely played out as origin stories leading up to a cliffhanger finish between characters Liu Kang and Kung Lao, portrayed respectively by actor Brian Tee and Mark Dacascos. This, on top of the fact that Dacascos is not returning and no word is being given regarding Tee's presence, makes things a bit been pretty frustrating, for fans all around, especially what with plans for a feature film now close to nil.

Despite all this, however, with a new game on the way and a current comic book run to help fans pass the time before then, a fresh approach could stand with some appeal with a chance to introduce new character along with some familar faces. Cary Tagawa will reprise his role as Outworld sorceror Shang Tsung from the second season along with actor Casper Van Dien returning to star as troubled movie star Johnny Cage, now in the company of a young actress for the role of Johnny's daughter, Cassie; Time will tell if this particular role will be manifest by an older actress suited for the character's much older special forces iteration.

Meanwhile, two new faces have been added to the arena in the form of actor Jamal Duff (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, The Rundown) and actress and stuntwoman Jade Quon (Raze, Iron Man 3), who will play the singular combatant, Torr and his female companion, Ferra. Other characters from previous and the upcoming game have already been announced from a previous casting call, including Bo Rai Cho, D'Vorah, and a new actor who will portray the role of cursed ninja, Scorpion.

Hollywood stunt coordinator Garrett Warren is directing the series with Jenny Hockey and Lance Sloane producing. Stay tuned for more information.

UPDATE: A previous version of this article stated Brian Tee would not star. H/T to MKServer for the correction.
